About this opportunity
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), delivered in partnership with Innovate UK under the Farming Innovation Programme, is investing up to £5 million for on-farm trial and demonstration projects. The aim is to support innovative, on-farm trials or farm experiment projects to test ideas or solutions addressing major on-farm or immediate post-farmgate challenges or opportunities. Projects must significantly improve agricultural productivity, resilience, or sustainability and progression toward net zero farming. Total eligible project costs must range between £50,000 and £200,000 and projects should last between 6 and 24 months. To be eligible, lead applicants must be active commercial farming, growing, or forestry businesses based in England and must collaborate with at least one other UK-based farming, growing, or forestry business. Proposals must also demonstrate to other English farmers, growers, or foresters how the solution will benefit them.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Innovation Funding Service (IFS). The lead applicant starts the application and invites eligible UK project collaborators to join and input their own costs.
