About this opportunity
The Conservation, Food & Health Foundation offers grants to protect the environment, improve food production, and promote public health in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East. The Foundation primarily supports applied research, pilot projects, new initiatives, training, and technical assistance, aiming to provide seed money for promising projects and organizations to build a track record for future funding. Priority is given to projects addressing under-funded issues and geographic areas, focusing on local or regional solutions, advancing local leadership, and building the capacity of local organizations.
Within conservation, grants support environmental protection through field research, projects, and advocacy, including biodiversity preservation, climate change mitigation, and capacity building for local conservation organizations. Food and agriculture grants focus on sustainable practices, small-scale farmer capacity, farmer research, pest/disease control, indigenous food sovereignty, and technology transfer. Health initiatives emphasize public health, reproductive health, family planning, mental/behavioral health, environmental health, zoonotic/neglected tropical diseases, and nutrition, favoring community-level prevention and system strengthening.
Eligible applicants include local, state, and regional non-governmental, nonprofit, civil society, community-based organizations, colleges, and universities in the target regions. Organizations from upper-income countries can apply if working with local partners in these areas. Projects in post-Soviet or Balkan states are not supported. The Foundation does not fund overhead, general operating support, direct humanitarian aid, eco-tourism, capital improvements, projects for private gain, or salaries for U.S./European Executive Directors. Grants typically range from $25,000 to $50,000 per year for one or two-year periods.
How to apply
Grant applications are accepted twice a year for awards made in the spring and fall, with specific timelines publicized on the website. Organizations may submit only one proposal per calendar year.
