How to apply for startup grants in Guinea-Bissau

Almost every grant above is applied for online, on the funder's own form. The work is much the same from one grant to the next, so getting it right once makes every later application faster. For the whole process, from choosing the right kind of funding to what happens after you apply, read how to get startup funding in Africa.

  1. Check you meet every hard requirement. Read the eligibility on the grant's page: country, sector, stage, whether the business must be registered, and any rules on the founders' age or gender. Funders rarely bend these, so a near miss is usually a rejection.
  2. Register the business before you need to. Most grants ask for a business registered with Guinea-Bissau's company registry and a tax number. Registration can take weeks, so start it before a deadline is close.
  3. Gather the documents most applications ask for (listed below), so each new application is mostly a matter of writing the answers.
  4. Answer the funder's own criteria. Say what problem you solve and for whom, the traction you have so far, exactly what the grant money will pay for, and how you will measure the result. Answers copied from another application read that way.
  5. Submit before the deadline and keep a copy. Portals slow down on the last day. Note when the funder says it will decide, and keep your answers for the next grant.

What you'll usually need

  • Business registration certificate
  • Tax number
  • ID for each founder
  • A pitch deck or short business plan
  • A budget showing how you'll spend the grant
  • Evidence of traction: users, sales or pilots
  • Short founder bios, and sometimes a one- or two-minute video

Why grant applications get rejected

  • The business doesn't meet one of the eligibility rules
  • The answers don't address what the funder said it is looking for
  • No budget, or a vague one, for how the money will be used
  • Missing documents or an unfinished form
  • Submitted after the deadline

Genuine grant programmes don't charge you to apply. If a "grant" asks for an application fee, treat it as a warning sign.

Common questions

Seed funding for African startups: common questions

Everything founders ask before they create an account.

Seed funding helps early-stage African startups build MVPs, hire early team members, run pilots, and reach initial traction.

On this page, seed funding includes equity-free grants, accelerator capital, angel investment, and early-stage venture funding available in 2026.

Create an account and we match opportunities to your country, sector, and stage automatically — no manual filtering through eligibility rules and deadlines required.

Both. We match you to the funds actually open to you, draft every application answer from your own deck, check the deck against the fund's own criteria, and connect you to the events where those investors show up.

Yes. Creating an account is free and gets you your matched list immediately, plus one full AI-drafted application, with no card required. Paid packages exist for founders who want more drafts, deck reviews, and hands-on support — see the pricing page for details.

Weekly. New grants, accelerators, and investor calls are added and stale or closed listings are removed, so the deadlines and eligibility you see are current, not scraped once and forgotten.

All four funding types: equity-free grants, accelerator cohorts, angel and VC investors, and debt financing — filtered the same way, by country, sector, and stage.

Nothing on our end delays you — you submit directly to the fund. We track the deadline and status on your account so you know what's outstanding, and we surface matched events where that fund's investors are likely to show up.
